and experience “A Moment of Zen".
Blue Wing Gallery is
pleased to exhibit the works of Kristi Hughes and Deborah Bridges in
a joint exhibit that focuses on iconic Asian imagery. Both artists
feel a strong connection to the images they create and their
feelings are manifested in the work giving it a sense of depth and
meaning.
Given her Chinese name T’ang Mei Yun,
(beautiful cloud) by her Chinese grandfather; Kristi has chosen to
paint under that name to carry on the family name which was never
used.
Kristi feels that creativity comes through us and is
the energy of things beyond ourselves. If we are open to the process
we will be given avenues in which to express that which is deep
within us. When asked about her calligraphy Kristi explains, “I
studied Cursive Calligraphy with Professor Lampo Leong because I
love the flow and energy in the fluid writings that ancient artists
and poets were known for. The beauty of Art and Calligraphy is
capturing the essence of its energy without stopping it”. In a
slightly eclectic yet beautifully appointed studio Kristi mixes all
the materials used in her artwork. Her use of 17th century
techniques using 21st century materials produce a natural feel of
antiquity in her pieces. Liquid wax, shellac and earth pigments are
a few of the materials used.
Adding the three dimensional
element to this exhibit is a well-known northern California artist
named Deborah Bridges. Her beautiful iconic sculptures are the
crowning jewels on this show.
Deborah indicates she draws
inspiration from several sources “My pieces are inspired by
fragments of Buddha sculptures, African masks, Sanskrit carvings and
angels. They are my interpretation of the sacred imagery used in
many cultures”. Made from a cast cement material that is finished
with an acid based stain these sculptures have a wonderfully aged
appearance. Their highly textured, slightly pitted finish gives the
illusion that they’ve been around for hundreds of years.

Special Feature of staple
artists
In
addition to this month’s featured artists. The Blue Wing has a
talented group of artists who showcase their work on a regular
bases.
Michelle MacKenzie's animated clay horses,
detailed wall tiles and highly textured paintings are a must see.
Marbo Barnard's pastel images of landscapes are
breathtaking. At 83 years young Marbo continues to create new pieces
that delight and amaze visitors to the gallery.
The
seemingly delicate ceramic vases and vessels by Dana Barrow create a
striking display when grouped together. However each one is
exquisite and a single piece makes a beautiful visual statement.
Dana's rising popularity makes her ceramics highly sought after.
Kristen Hoard is known for her dramatic fire sculptures as well
as her LED lighted pieces. The fire sculpture is perfect for a patio
as well as indoor. The fire is created by "instant flame" a product
that is safe to use inside.
Harry Curieux Adamson "Is the
un-disputed master painter of wildfowl on the wing when it comes to
photo realistic paintings of wildlife art!”
