One Woman Show - Featured Artist:
Shannon Moore-Jervis
Exhibit Dates: May 2nd-30th
Last August Shannon was part of the La
Femme show at the Blue Wing
Gallery. At that time we caught a
glimpse of what her style was like. But
a glimpse of her creative talents is all
it took to leave us wanting more.
Shannon Moore that is! One year in the
planning with excitement building
we are pleased to announce her one-woman
exhibit Clay and Canvas.
Shannon Moore-Jervis continues to
explore the female figure and how women
become objects and icons, in both actual
and mythological worlds. For
example, her snake coifed 'Medusa'
reaches into a hole cut into her chest
that invites the viewer to look inside
to see their own reflection.
This comprehensive show will include a
few select paintings with the main
focus given to Shannon’s sculptural
work. Several of her intricate wall
sculptures and pedestal pieces command
space, so care was taken to provide
ample room. Fifty clay birds in various
sizes take up an entire wall, the
effect is a surreal 3-dimension
wonderland.
Gallery curator Clare Bailey comments
about the facial features on the
female sculptures, “I don’t believe that
they are self portraits, however
the feeling or essence of Shannon’s
character comes across in their
expressions of quiet strength. These
women are handsome with powerful
noses and contemplative mouths. You will
not find one upturned nose or set
of pouty lips in the grouping. These
women are not cute, they are
dignified, strong, breathtaking and even
heartbreaking.”
